This advanced course presents design principles and wardrobe planning. More challenging fabrics and techniques are encouraged. Prerequisite: Fashion Design I Students are responsible for their own project materials.

Review: Tools of the Trade

  • What are the standard tools used for sewing and fashion design? 

  • What are notions?

  • Create charts identifying standard tools and their purposes

Embroidery and Hand Sewing

Review: Operating a Sewing Machine

  • What is the importance of Safety, Proper Threading and Maintenance of a Sewing Machine?

  • What are the parts of the machine (Identifying the parts of a sewing machine)?

  • How do different machine stitches impact practical and aesthetic features of a product?

  • Pass Machine Test

  • Sew straight lines

Create a variety of items sold in the fashion trades

Review: Measuring, Pattern Layout, Cutting, and Identifying Pattern Symbol

2 weeks

  • How does Fashion Marketing impact everyone? 

  • Identify a variety of careers in the Fashion industry

  • Define the unique qualities of different jobs within the industry and compare them to skill sets different people may possess

  • Determine what steps may be taken to advance toward a given fashion technology career
